5 Arguments Against White Trim + our favourite non-white woodwork colors

Over the years, we’ve been making updates to our house.  Some have been big (hello dream laundry room) some have been smaller.  One of my favourites though, was putting up crown molding in all the rooms.  It really frames the wall and gives the spaces a finished look.  Plus it’s a great contrast to the wall paint.

We painted our crown molding and doors white.  Honestly, it was the safe option since it goes with everything and back then we weren’t very adventurous with colour.   These days, however, I’m feeling much braver and there is a whole palette of beautiful trim options that go way beyond basic white.  Below are a few of my favourites from Pinterest.  Don’t forget to Pin YOUR favourites and don’t miss our trim painting tips at the end of the post.

Let’s start with this cheerful space. I love how the trim in the front room not only pairs with buttery walls but also mirrors the wall colour in the adjoining space.

Isn’t this bedroom beautiful?  The soft blue/grey trim and door colour matches perfectly to the rug and creates a restful and relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom.

If you love Fixer Upper as much as I do then you’ll recognize this space from Season 5.  This taupe trim is just enough colour to make the architectural details of this home stand out.

If you want to make a statement skip the neutrals and go for a rich navy.  Loving this window trim as much as I am?

If you really want to make a statement you can’t go wrong with black.  These doors and trim match the beautiful pattern on the floor tiles in this mudroom perfectly.
